Empowering the next generation of healthcare leadership in Nebraska

The Canedy Scholar Program is designed for midcareer professionals who are committed to advancing health policy and practice in Nebraska, ideally in one of our priority areas (behavioral health, maternal & child health, workforce), but these areas are not required.

Eligibility, Review, and Selection Criteria

  All applicants must:

  • Be established residents of Nebraska. In addition, applicants must be committed to continuing their career in Nebraska.
  • Have: At least three years of practice; a growth mindset; a demonstrated track record of leadership; a spirit of working across silos; and a long-term vision to improve their Nebraska community. If you have specific questions about whether your career path fits with the Canedy Scholar program, please contact Melissa Nosal, Communications and PR Manager, at mnosal@clarksonregional.com.
  • Propose a research project that is relevant to Nebraska and is focused on creating policy or system-level change.
  • Have the relevant education and work experience to carry out the proposed research and take full advantage of the scholarship experience.

Process

All submitted applications are reviewed by Clarkson Institute staff and past Canedy Scholars. Following the review period, a limited number of applicants will be invited for interviews, which may be conducted either virtually or in person. Once confirmed, interview dates will be shared directly with applicants via email.

Applicants are shortlisted for an interview based on their qualifications, leadership potential, and commitment to improving health care and access to it in Nebraska; the quality and policy relevance of the proposed research project; and the strength of the reference letters submitted on their behalf. While Clarkson Institute does not provide critiques of applications that are declined, qualified applicants are encouraged to re-apply in future years.

All candidates must complete an application via the Canedy Scholar Program portal, including the following:

  • Cover letter/Statement of professional objectives;
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Professional headshot and bio;
  • Statement of candidate’s most transformative leadership experience;
  • Statement addressing how candidate would use the EMBA to transform healthcare in our region;
  • Statement addressing appeal of the scholarship to candidate; and
  • Preliminary proposal (up to three pages, exclusive of references) for a policy-oriented research project that addresses a gap in access to care in Nebraska.
