Purpose & Vision

Clarkson Institute’s vision is to make Nebraska the healthiest state in the nation. We do this through grantmaking, internal projects and initiatives, and thought leadership

The physical and philosophical cornerstone of Clarkson Institute was laid in 1869 in the founding of Nebraska’s first hospital. It was then a meager six-room building.

Now, more than 150 years later, Clarkson Institute serves that same organization’s mission through development and support of initiatives that respond to the health challenges facing Nebraskans today.

Guiding principles

These principles reflect who we are, how we work, and what drives our path forward

Nebraska first

Inspired by Nebraska’s pioneering spirit, we are working to empower Nebraska to lead the nation in health outcomes. Bold in 1869, bold now.

Abundance mindset

Health is for all Nebraskans. With collaboration and blue-skies thinking, we will get there together.

Data-driven

Data is a strategic asset; our decisions are grounded in evidence and measurable impact.

Compassionate

We carry the same torch for empathy, understanding, and respect as when we were founded.

Good stewards

We responsibly manage our resources to maximize their impact and ensure our legacy for the good of Nebraska.
Boldly going–from ‘little hospital’ to statewide advocate for outcome-driven innovation
