YOUTH WELLNESS INITIATIVE
Bridges to Mental Health for Educators
Youth today face a growing set of behavioral health challenges. Addressing these challenges requires early intervention,
expanded access to services, and efforts to reduce stigma and build resilience.
Schools are a critical piece of the puzzle.
You are invited to be part of a free training program led by child psychiatrists and educators on how together we can bridge the behavioral health access gap for Nebraska students.
THE CHALLENGE

1 in 5 Nebraska children report experiencing a mental health condition each year.

One-third of Nebraska counties lack a behavioral health provider.

In the last year, there was a 24% increase in mental health-related emergency room visits among 5- to 11-year-olds.

Nebraska exceeds national trends for number of suicide deaths in 15- to 19-year-olds.

Helping build stronger support systems around student mental health

Bridges to Mental Health for Educators trains K-12 administrators, faculty, and staff to heighten their awareness of common behavioral disorders and how they manifest in students and to strengthen their confidence in identifying these conditions to engage appropriate supports.
Led by a team of child psychiatrists and educators, the program is designed to bridge the continuum of care between family, school, and health professionals and support the training school districts and ESUs continue to implement statewide.
Topics addressed include:
- ADHD
- Adolescent Substance Abuse
- Anxiety
- Depression
- General Principles of Child Psychiatry
- Managing Explosive Behavior
- School Refusal
- Stress & Adversity
This program builds off the proven success of the same program for healthcare providers that has uptrained 800 practitioners across Nebraska and Western Iowa over the past two years. In doing so, it
recognizes the critical and unique role the school community
plays in helping mitigate the gap in access to behavioral
health care for youth.
